Muscular Skeletal Clinic
Providing community-based chiropractic, physiotherapy and osteopathy therapy to patients from the Inner City & East Bristol.
Suitable for patients with acute non-specific musculoskeletal pain requiring routine physical therapy, this service is provided free of charge at the point of delivery.
We provide assessment and treatment of adult patients who have acute non-specific musculoskeletal pain and require short term routine therapy. Patients will be accepted for assessment if they have had no improvement of the musculoskeletal pain after four weeks of analgesia and re-mobilisation advice.
The service will accept referrals from GPs for all types of musculoskeletal problems including back, neck, shoulder, elbow and wrist, hip, knee and foot. Patients at Wellspring GP Surgery can access this service as well as patients of Montpelier Health Centre, Charlotte Keel Medical Practice, Eastville Medical Practice, Lawrence Hill Health Centre and Maytrees Medical Practice.
For this particular service the definition of acute and chronic is as follows:
Acute: patients who have had their condition for less than 6 months
Chronic: patients who have has their condition for more than 6 months
Therapy can be provided for patients with recurring musculoskeletal conditions if it is a new acute episode rather than a constant problem. Chronic conditions will be referred back to the GP.
Each care episode will be up to 3 – 4 sessions long (aiming for an average of 3.2 sessions). If further therapy is indicated a re-referral from the GP is required using a re-referral form providing details of treatment given, progress made and sent to the GP for approval. When the signed re-referral form is returned the patient care continues.
