Your Food, Your Health
Delivering a varied programme of healthy eating activities for people over the age of 55 in Bristol.
Your Food, Your Health provides the opportunity for people over 55 living in sheltered living accommodation to come together to improve their relationship with food. Delivered in three localities in Bristol, we support opportunities for people to socialise, learn about healthy eating, prepare food, cook and eat together.
The aims for the project are to improve people’s health and wellbeing, and reduce feelings of loneliness and social isolation. This service is supporting people living in Bedminster, Lawrence Hill and Lockleaze.
Food Development Workers and volunteers use a creative and inclusive approach to work with residents from these communities to increase people’s enjoyment of food, rediscover food skills, and buy and use fresh food and produce. The Food Development Workers have been providing a range of varied cookery and food sessions with residents; preparing and cooking meals, trying new foods and healthy options. Volunteers have been trained to support this work with residents and have run community cookery groups at Wellspring Healthy Living Centre.
This is a National Lottery funded project through Bristol Ageing Better, and is administered by Age UK Bristol. Wellspring is the lead partner, working with BS3 Communities, based in Bedminster, and Buzz in Lockleaze
